Album Summary

>Vogel, Wladimir : Thyl Claes [Part 1], oratorio for 2 narrators, voice, choir & orchestra
Performer Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

During 1937-38 the German-Russian Busoni pupil Wladimir Vogel composed a dramma-oratorio Thyl Claes for soprano, two reciters, spoken chorus, and orchestra on the basis of Coster’s novel Thyl Ulenspiegel and Lamme Goedzak (1848). Vogel wrote this vigorous protest against the political circumstances prevailing in Central Europe while living in Swiss exile. Dramatic spoken choruses (practically invented by Vogel in this form) full of rhythmic resolve occur together with lyrical melodies.
