Notes & Reviews:

THREE MONTHS after the First volume of the Complete edition of Pierné's chamber music (TIM 1110), here comes the second. The First volume received a particularly warm welcome from all around the musical world: Diapason d'Or, 9 from Classica, **** from Monde de la Musique, and there is no reason the Second volume does not get the same kind of great reviews. Both CDs were recorded during the same period, and seven sessions were necessary for this complete set. Whereas CD 1 explores the world of piano and strings - the Cello Sonata and the immense Piano Trio are probably, together with the Quintet, the apex of Pierné's output -, CD 2 proposes a more varied fare such as music for flute or even for saxophones, for which the excellent Luxemburg Saxophone Quartet was engaged. This far-reaching project has called for a large crew over several months, as well as two musicologists, one of which - Cyril Bongers - gave us access to unpublished or long-lost works. (2 CDs).
