Scarlatti: Flute Concertos & Sonatas / Modo Antiquo

Album Summary

>Scarlatti, Alessandro : Concerto for Flute in A major
Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

When it was suggested to him to meet flautist Joachim Quantz, he had declared to detest wind instruments in general. Curiously enough, Alessandro Scarlatti later wrote quite a few pieces for such an ugly instrument, the flute. Since he had been writing vocal music, mainly opera, for some 36 years his change to instrumental music is even more remarkable. In his instrumental music A. Scarlatti seems to be slightly out of his depth, i.e. he makes do without the, to him, natural dramatic intuition. The Concerti Grossi are of a most enjoyable if somewhat austere nature.
