Notes & Reviews:
Althought Gottfried Homilius was the longtime choirmaster of the Kreuzkirche, due to its destruction, the primary center where he performed this function was at the Frauenkirche in Dresden. His Passion Cantata was widely performed and admired right into the 19th century. The course of the Homilius renaissance, this work was rediscovered and is presented her in its world premiere recording in SACD.
It is not at all difficult to comprehend why it was Homilius's most famous and widely disseminated work... This is perhaps the most persuasive advocacy of the revival of Homilius that I yet heard. Any admirers of Telemann's late works, Graun and CPE Bach will find great satisfaction here.
