Notes & Reviews:

This significant release reveals many sides of this Swiss composer best known for his Concertos for Horn and Cello. Schoeck was a composer who could often surprise listeners with innovative uses of contemporary techniques while remaining true to his neo-Romantic roots - a conservative with an original voice. Particularly striking is Trommelschlage, a very short work (under five minutes) that uses massive orchestral forces to startling effect.
