Notes & Reviews:

Although Weinberg never officially enrolled to study under Shostakovich, he always acknowledged that he was his primary source of inspiration. And, for his part, Shostakovich missed no opportunity to recommend Weinberg’s music to his friends and colleagues. Shostakovich and Weinberg seemed to have carried on a two-man competition in quartet composing. While the Shostakovich cycle today forms part of the standard repertoire, the Weinberg cycle has fallen into oblivion – completely without reason, as CPO's planned complete recording by the fabulous Quatuor Danel will demonstrate.

BBC Music Magazine
Having previously recorded a highly praised Shostakovich cycle, it's hardly surprising that the Quatuor Danel demonstrate such an instinctive understanding of Weinberg's idiom.

Gramophone Magazine
... fine and committed performances, and eminently recommendable.
