Notes & Reviews:

In recent years, the reputation of Max Reger has grown and more and more of his rarely heard orchestral works have been recorded and performed. But at the heart of his output are the organ works. There are many short pieces, often of a virtuosic nature. This disc presents three of his larger-scale works. The B-A-C-H Fantasy and Fugue reveals Reger's veneration for the master, and Reger treated the Bach theme in the most exhaustive way possible. The Chorale Fantasy and the Fantasy and Fugue, likewise, are major, elaborate display pieces for the instrument in which Reger's technique and command are heard in all their glory.
