Notes & Reviews:

Herzogenberg and his wife Elisabet were at the center of musical life with the Gewandhaus and Leipzig Bach Society as its focus. Their circle included Clara Schumann, Joseph Joachim and Johannes Brahms. Von Herzogenberg never mad a secret of his reverence for the older composer, whom he began to emulate. In fact, Brahms, as a mentor, found himself in the same position that Robert Schumann had been years before with the young Brahms himself. Needless to say, while Brahms went on to fame that only grew after his death, von Herzogenberg, until now, has been forgotten.
