Notes & Reviews:
It has been quite a while since Timpani last released a 'historic recording'. This double album pays tribute to on of the greatest harpists of the 20th century, Pierre Jamet, and his Quintet, initially called the Paris Instrumental Quintet before changing its name to the Pierre Jamet Instrumental Quintet after the war. Combining flute, harp and string trio, it achieved a rare alchemy in sound that wone over composers, with some of the greatest among them - Roussel, Pierne, d'Indy, Schmitt, Koechlin and many others - writing veritable masterpieces for the ensemble.
