The Wind Orchestra in Bulgarian Music

Album Summary

>Radanov, Hristofor : Krushovensko Dance
Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Part of a series devoted to various types of instrumental music in Bulgaria, this release broadens our horizons by revealing a history little-known outside this country. Even before Bulgaria was liberated from the rule of the Ottoman Empire near the end of the 19th Century, the Turkish military orchestras played a large role in the education of young musicians. In the decades since, the role of the military brass band has expanded and attracted composers from all backgrounds. The most famous and influential was Diko Iliev, emphasizing the distinctive Hora form. This illuminating disc allows the listener to hear a wholly different aspect of the Bulgarian musical culture.
