Borodin: Symphonies no 1 & 2 / Michel Plasson, Dresdner

Album Summary

>Borodin, Alexander : Symphony no 1 in E flat major
>Borodin, Alexander : Symphony no 2 in B minor
Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Today Bordin is remembered mostly for the opera Prince Igor; more specifically the pops-concert favorite Polovtsian Dances drawn from it. But his most substantial orchestral work is the Symphony No. 2, drawing influences from both Russian folk music and the same "oriental" sources that inspired the opera. His musical talents were all the more remarkable considering he felt music was "a relaxation, a pastime and an indulgence which distracts me from my principal work."
