Notes & Reviews:
Takashi Yoshimatsu is yet another example of the kind of "new" Classical composer who has emerged in the past thirty years - one who first gained experience in jazz and rock bands then branched into "serious" music while maintaining a "pop" sensibility in his current writing, whether for chamber ensembles or full symphony orchestras. In recent years Yoshimatsu has delved into the work of Japanese folk music and, particularly music composed for Japanese instruments. The results are heard in this fascinating, ear-opening collection of music of the sho, shakuhachi and the twenty-string koto.
