Album Summary
Conductor Ensemble ComposerNotes & Reviews:
Based on the correspondence between the painter Vincent Van Gogh and his brother Theo, this vivid recording of Michael Gordon’s new work 'Van Gogh' by Alarm Will Sound doubles as the follow-up to the group’s Billboard-charting 2005 classical crossover release, 'Acoustica: Music of Aphex Twin'. Michael Gordon (born 1956) describes his inspiration for the new piece as "my obsession with Vincent Van Gogh’s letters to his brother, Theo. [The group’s] performance and recording is everything I could have dreamed of.” Alan Pierson, the conductor of this unique 20-member band, says of Van Gogh, "I was very moved by the directness, immediacy and intimacy that Michael brings to Van Gogh's story."
