Notes & Reviews:

Josef Bohuslav Foerster was born in Prague at the end of December 1859, just making it into the year in which Wagner completed Tristan, whose innovations would smooth the way to atonal music. A highly esteemed national artist , Foerster was given a state funeral in his native city in May 1951, just one-and-a-half months before Arnold Schoenberg died. Foerster left some 190 numbered works, among them 350 songs and six operas. His orchestral compositions include programmatic works and traditionally conceived four-movement symphonies.

BBC Music Magazine
Hermann BSumer and the Osnabrnck Symphony certainly have the measure of these, at times, elusive works. àthe abundant wind solo lines are delivered with aplomb in a clear and resonant recording.
