Bach: Organ Works / Köbler, Eger, Albrecht, Otto, et al

Notes & Reviews:

The compositions that make up these recordings emanate from and throw light upon important "stations" in Bach’s career, starting with his apprenticeship in Luneburg and ensuing time as organist in Arnstadt (1703-1707), including his time as court musician and organist in Weimar (1708-1717) and Hofkapellmeister in Cothen (1717-1723) and culminating in his position as Thomaskantor and "Director musices" in Leipzig (from 1723). Varying in its intensity from situation to situation, Bach’s composing for the organ forms a link between the individual phases in his life and the varying priorities each post entailed. The booklet contains complete notes in English telling the history of each of the organs recorded and biographical material about each of the performers.
