Notes & Reviews:
There is no need to write an organ arrangement of the Goldberg Variations. Apart from a few bass notes that can be transposed almost unnoticeably, the work cannot only be played on a modern organ, but also on Baroque organs from Bach’s time. The greatest change involved in an organ performance affects timbre, which is implied by the choice of instrument. There is no need to fear that such a "new" sound might contradict Bach’s original intentions: with his numerous transcriptions from orchestra to keyboard, from violin to organ, or in new settings of his own works and those of others, Bach showed how much he truly enjoyed modifications of timber.
