Notes & Reviews:

One of the most important Basque and Spanish composers of the early 20th century, Guridi can best be described as a late Romantic with nationalistic leanings. He remained at a distance from the avant-garde that was developing around him, preferring his own unique voice. In this country, he is best known for a delightful work for piano and orchestra, "Homage to Walt Disney" and sundry chamber pieces, but this Aeolus series continues to reveal his exceptional skills as a composer for organ. Serene happiness, joie-de-vivre and, as in the "Interludio," sweet melancholy pervade much of his music. The major work, "The Spanish Organ School," is a collection of short works, many of which bear dedications to fellow, beloved musicians. Oh, yes, he was also the Spanish rep for Hammond Organs from 1948 on!
