This new Vivaldi Edition release is dedicated to forgotten opera arias. Part of these arias were lost in the 18th century and have recently been found in the manuscripts held in Torino - Vivaldi's personal collection. For instance, this new release includes two arias from 'Scanderbeg', an opera composed by Vivaldi in 1718. This opera was lost and these 2 arias are the only pieces that remain from this work. This disc also includes 2 superb violin concertos performed by Stefano Montanari.

Some of these arias are individual pieces in anthologies made by Vivaldi, or long-forgotten alternative opera arias that will not be recorded in the context of their parent work in Nanve's series.

'Con palme ed allori' is one of the few traces to have survived from Scanderbeg, an opera written to celebrate the reopening of the Teatro alla Pergola in Florence in June 1718. A martial aria with two trumpets, two oboes and strings, its spectacular boldness arrives just in time to inject some flamboyant theatricality after some lessthan- striking alternative arias from La verita incimento. However, all of the music is expertly crafted, and some of it is extraordinary, such as the beautiful 'Tu dormi in tante pene' from TitoManlio. Sonia Prina has a firm grasp on melodic lines and a supple timbre. She reaffirms her status as an outstanding Baroque opera singer, and Ottavio Dantone lends excellent support from Accademia Bizantina.

These fragments of Vivaldian arcana make for an entirely satisfying programme, thanks to the high quality of the music - Servilia's Tu dormi in tante pene, from the Mantuan carnival version of Tito Manlio, is the highlight - and to Prina's fabulous singing. Her training as a trumpeter gives her singing a muscularity and endless reserves of breath. A thrilling disc.
