Notes & Reviews:
Born in the north of France of French and Belgian parents, Paul de Maleingreau defied them by enrolling in the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels. His teachers included Paul Gilson and Egdar Tinel. Though little known today outside France, many musicologists place him in line with Franck and Debussy. In fact, he developed a very personal style of his own. A devoutly religious man, many of his pieces reflect his beliefs. The Symphonie de la Passion is considered his most important work. This release, particularly in SACD sound, will certainly help revive wide interest in his music.
