See Wong (Piano)
Notes & Reviews:
Born in Lisbon, Emmanuel Nunes has established himself as one of the most significant Portuguese composers of his generation. His large-scale work for solo piano on this disc is one of his early compositions, in which he has displayed a preference for open forms and spatial instrumental distribution. Born in Basle in 1931, Rudolf Kelterborn is one of the leading Swiss composers. His Piano Pieces 1-6 stand in contrast to the music of Nunes; these pieces have a much more highly organized structure. In fact, the contrast between these two sets of works is typical of the kind of programming favored by the soloist, See Siang Wong (b.1979), a specialist in contemporary music from an early age. As in a concert setting, Wong builds a bridge between contrasts of introversion and extroversion, old and new, and East and West. This is a true musical adventure that the listener is asked to join.
