Notes & Reviews:

As the personal music teacher of Vienna's Empress Maria Theresia, Wagenseil exerted formative stylistic influence on court musical taste. In London and Paris too his works - above all his symphonies - were extraordinarily esteemed and published with success. CPO's second CD with symphonies by Wagenseil again presents six magnificent Storm and Stress works and reveals this Viennese composer's great gifts. The absolute high point is occupied by the Symphony WV 393; with its "loud jubilation, laughing joy" it realizes the characteristics of its key as defined by C. F. Daniel Schubart. These new jewels in the crown of pre-classical music are interpreted by the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra under Johannes Goritzki.

BBC Music Magazine
As Mozart was born, Wagenseil was doing extremely well in Vienna, deservedly, judging from these short, inventive, occasionally dramatic symphonies. Decent playing (on modern rather than period instruments, unlike Vol. 1).
