Born in the Czech Republic, Otto Tichy studied composition at the Prague Conservatory with Vitozslav Novak. He went to Paris in 1919 and studied at the Schola Cantorum under Vincent d'Indy. He settled in Switzerland in 1926 and was the organist and choirmaster of the Notre Dame du Valentin Cathedral in Lausanne. He returned to his homeland in 1936 and was active as a choral conductor and organist, teaching that instrument at the Prague Conservatory. Mostly known for his religious music, Tichy also wrote numerous works for chamber ensembles, using his Czech musical heritage as inspiration.
