Notes & Reviews:

When Fritz Kreisler emerged as a major soloist, he showed all the traits then expected of a great violinist, but he had an added ingredient that made him unique at the time: he played with continuous vibrato that almost overlapped from note to note. His style rubbed off on Lionel Tertis, who transferred it to the viola, and Pablo Casals, who adapted it to the cello. String playing would never be the same again. Contrast the rare record of the German violinist Willy Burmester included on this recording and it demonstrates, better than any number of words, the change that Kreisler wrought in violin playing.
