Notes & Reviews:

Sir Thomas Beecham (1879-1961) was nothing if not versatile in the extent of his repertoire over a very active conducting life. Mozart held a very special place in Beecham's heart and his programming works that were then relatively unknown to British audiences in the first decades of the twentieth century was both typical and commendable. Alwyn was one of that group of contemporary British composers to whom Beecham gave performance opportunities, and although Grieg is not a composer who immediately springs to mind when we think of Sir Thomas Beecham, he did explore much of that composer's limited orchestral output.
