Notes & Reviews:

As the producer notes, the present transfer comes not from commercial releases but from transcription discs or private dubs. The Haydn, from a broadcast of March 19, 1944, is one of Toscanini's rarest recordings. The Strauss, although reissued several times, perhaps has never sounded better than it does here, displaying greater clarity than some other versions. Of course, under any conditions, these outstanding interpretations are worth hearing again and again; any opportunity to savor the artistry of the cellist Emanuel Feuermann is always welcome.
