Notes & Reviews:

Appearing here for the first time on CD is RobertTear’s 1976 LP of solo folksong arrangements with piano, now coupled with the 1963World Record Club recording of the Six Studies in English Folk-Song, in the version for viola played by the composer’s friend, Jean Stewart.

BBC Music Magazine
VW collected most of these folksongs himself, and many, like 'The Captain's Apprentice', permeate his later work, Bean and Stewart are splendid string soloists, Tear haunting if occasionally mannered.
