Album Summary
Stravinsky, Igor : L'oiseau de feu (The Firebird), concert suite for orchestra no 2
Stravinsky, Igor : Le sacre du printemps
Sound, Recorded : ApplauseNotes & Reviews:
Two of Igor Stravinsky's first important ballet scores are brought together on this fine-sounding SACD, recorded live, with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra helmed by its chief conductor, Mariss Jansons. "The Stravinsky was hair-raisingly exciting right from the opening notes in the lower strings with extraordinarily fierce lashes in a brilliant, rhythmically razor-sharp dance from hell and a broad, expansive finale" (NRC Handelsblad, Holland). "Jansons's 'Rite' was hard and ruthless, raw, rough, barbaric, yet executed by a perfect 'machine' - the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra - which gave an incredibly good performance" (Trouw, Holland).
