Notes & Reviews:

Many of Sir Colin Davis' finest recordings for LSO Live have focused on choral music and opera. Recent titles have included Handel's 'Messiah', Mozart's 'Requiem', Berlioz's 'Benvenuto Cellini' and Tippett's 'A Child of Our Time'. Beethoven's early 'Mass in C' is written on a less grandiose scale than the later 'Missa Solemnis', yet it contains some of the composer's most sublime music for voices. Davis is joined by a perfectly balanced group of singers in Sally Matthews, Sara Mingardo, John Mark Ainsley and Alastair Miles.

BBC Music Magazine
.Davis's tempos are generally broad yet incisiveà The quartet of soloistsà is glorious, the Benedictus particularly well judged.

Gramophone Magazine
The singing of the LSO Chorus is incandescent throughout, with high dynamic contrasts so that the fortissimos hit the ear thrillinglyà The Gloria opens with thrilling attack, and so does the Credoà The soloists make a first-rate teamà
