Album Summary
Performer
Leonid Kogan (Violin)
Notes & Reviews:
Russian violinist Leonid Kogan was one of the most talented musicians of the past century. His international career began in the 1950's, which is the same period when these wonderful performances were recorded. The recording of Beethoven's 'Concerto Op. 61' is very rare and almost unknown. It is from 1958 in Torino, under the baton of a great conductor, Rudolf Kempe. Tchaikovsky's 'Concerto Op. 35' was a strong point of Kogan's repertoire. He played it several times, and this 1950 version possesses an excellent sound quality and features a performance of amazing virtuosity.
