Notes & Reviews:

The latest release in the Ballets Russes series includes two of the most popular scores ever commissioned for the dance in the 20th century - Debussy's 'Prelude a l'apres-midi d'un faune" and Stravinsky's "Petroushka." Also included is Florent Schmitt's sadly neglected "La tragedie de Salome," with its fusion of Rimsky-Korsakov's exoticism and the "impressionism" of Debussy and Ravel

BBC Music Magazine
A wonderfully moulded, vibrant performance of Schmitt's La tragédie de Salomé is framed by a fine account of Prélude a l'après-midi d'un faune and a Petrushka that is colourful, but lacks a little bite.

International Record Review
To my ears, Florent Schmitt's La Tragédie de Salomé is the treat on this CD. Here's a bit of decadence more dangerous than Richard Strauss's: its surface is so attractive, one might be tempted to dive right in... to be overcome by its delicious poison!
