Born in Tokyo, Yuko Shiokawa studied in Lima and Munich. At the age of 19 she won the Mendelssohn Prize and first prize from the Competition of German Music conservatories. She has performed with the Berlin Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic and Boston Symphony, among others. For this recording, made in 1989, Ms. Shiokawa performed on a Stradivarius "Emperor" violin.
