Notes & Reviews:

John Ireland, a contemporary of Vaughan Williams, Holst, Coleridge-Taylor and William Hurlstone, made his living as an organist and choirmaster. His compositional style was much more influenced by the new music of Debussy, Ravel and Stravinsky than the English folksong. He is often overlooked because he did not write many big orchestral works, but his body of music belongs to the highest level of musical creation, harmonic originality and thought.
