Roger Kellaway is a superb pianist who's played with nearly everyone of note, and Eddie Daniels is one of the few post-bop reed-players to concentrate almost entirely on the clarinet. Both are among the finest mainstream players the American jazz scene has to offer, and DUET OF ONE captures them live in a Los Angeles jazz club. Daniels has a warm, plump, rounded tone that encompasses both classical purity and the blues, while Kellaway wonderfully balances old-school poise with conciseness. Like Thelonious Monk, he's an expert at expressing a lot with a few well-placed notes. These hepcats swing madly together (a dazzling "After You've Gone") and engage in tender balladry ("Love Of My Life").
