Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Fortsch, a native of Franconia, made his way to Hamburg by way of Bayreuth. After initially working as a librettist in Hamburg, he then went on to compose music for the city's opera house. His opera experience evidently motivated him to reshape the Bible texts for his sacred compositions - thus lending them the character of opera libretti and bringing the opera to the church.

Notes & Reviews:

Recording information: Hauptkirche St. Nikolai, Hamburg (10/26/2007).
