Notes & Reviews:

The Lener Quartet stood at the pinnacle of its fame at the outbreak of war in 1939. After the war, however, fashions in string playing changed and the Lener, with its trademark portamento and wide vibrato, sounded dated. The group's vast contribution to chamber music was quickly forgotten, but its performances can still give much pleasure. The Mozart offers the rare opportunity of hearing father and son (Aubrey and Dennis Brain) playing together. This was the young Dennis Brain's first solo recording.
