Constant Lambert became fascinated with ballet after being taken to see Diaghilev's 'Ballet Russes' as a schoolboy. He was one of the artistic triumvirate who helped establish ballet in England, the other two consisting of Ninette de Valois, founder and Frederick Ashton, choreographer. The company began as the Vic-Wells Company, later called Sadler's Wells and now is the Royal Ballet. Called "the greatest ballet man in the business" Lambert's recordings on this CD are taken from digitally remastered 78rpm discs done in the 1940s.
