Maria Verbaite was born in Kaunas, Lithuania in 1992, and moved with her family to Sweden when she was two years old. She started playing the piano at the age of five, and had her first public appearance at the age of six. Two years later, Maria won 1st prize in an international competition in Lithuania, and the 1st prize in the Nikolai Rubinstein Competition in Paris, France the following year. Since then, Maria has won the national Steinway Competition in Stockholm, Sweden. This year, Maria won both 1st prize and the student VIP prize. As the winner of the Grand Prix, she will represent Sweden at the International Steinway & Sons Piano Festival in Hamburg in June.
