Notes & Reviews:
Busoni and Enescu are probably the most unjustly ignored composers of the 20th century for similar reasons: both were brilliant performers and their fame cast a shadow on their reputation as creators. Interestingly, a major common point is that their master work, in both cases an opera of great beauty and ambition, requires attention and open-mindedness from the listener. The two works on this CD are fascinatingly symmetrical: Busoni, the pianist and later Enescu, the violinist, each composed a sonata for piano and violin.
