Notes & Reviews:
In 1731 Telemann's independent publishing enterprise issued what was in every respect an unusual cycle: "III Trietti metodichi e III Scherzi a 2 Flauti traversieri overo 2 Violini con Fondamento." The pieces, all of them in three movements, are delightful in a galant way and full of dancy swing, and the blending of the two violins in the shortest motifs contributes not inconsiderably to the jocular character of the whole. The recording is complemented by two quartets revealing their refinement and beauty in particular in their employment of the bassoon instead of the bass.
