Notes & Reviews:
All that we know about the life of the Italian composer and organist Bernardo Storace has been transmitted in the introduction to the 'Selva di varie compositioni d'intavolatura per cimbalo et organo', a collection of his works published in Venice in 1664. Here he states that he was the assistant music director of the senate in the city of Messina. Storace's music reveals a clear compositional intention - that of designing larger forms and joining together variation movements in a unified work. The Ciaccona, certainly Storace's most famous piece, is marked by rhythmic concision and a catchy bass model.
