Notes & Reviews:
Francesco Feo doubtlessly numbers among the most important Neapolitan composers of the first half of the eighteenth century, and the Mass and Psalm (Psalm 110: "Confitebor tibi Domine") presented here promise to get underway the long-overdue rehabilitation of one of the best Italian composers of his generation. After all, Feo, who lived and worked in Naples throughout his life, was very famous and successful in Italy at the time, above all owing to his oratorio San Francesco di Sales (1734), and works by him were performed at the Saxon-Polish court in Dresden.
These excellent performances reveal that Feo's solo, vocal ensemble, choral and orchestral writing is consistently accomplished and charming. Matthias Jung does an impressive job of directing stylish and attractive performances... this disc is very warmly recommended.
