Notes & Reviews:

Glenn Gould was a musical visionary who fired the public's imagination with his totally original approach to the classical piano repertoire. His unconventional interpretation of Bach was initially misunderstood by the classical music world, but ultimately embraced and praised as revolutionary. Gould's 1955 recording of the 'Goldberg Variations' was a surprise crossover hit and catapulted Gould to superstar status. Glenn Gould was a larger-than-life figure, with eccentric personal habits and a powerful, self-deprecating sense of humor. In short, Glenn Gould is the stuff of legends.

Hailed by The Washington Post following his US debut as "A pianist with rare gifts for the world.. we know of no pianist anything like him of any age", the Canadian Glenn Gould's celebrity and popularity have only increased since his death, a few days after his fiftieth birthday in 1982. With his unique power to communicate he reached and deeply moved vast numbers people previously untouched by classical music, while continuing to enthrall and stimulate many of the greatest musicians in the world. Especially noted for his interpretations of Bach, he gave up performing in public in 1964, devoting himself entirely to recordings which continue to mesmerise listeners with their magical immediacy.
