Notes & Reviews:

At the age of twenty, Bach traveled hundreds of miles to meet the great Dietrich Buxtehude. Though intending to stay only a few weeks, he remained for months. The three sacred works presented on this CD are among the very first written by the young Johann Sebastian in his first posts as Kapellmeister in Muhlausen and Weimar. They display the heritage and influence of the old master Buxtehude, but also the force, the modernity, and the genius of the future Kantor. On this fascinating recording, the period instrument Ricercar Consort is led by Philippe Pierlot.
