Notes & Reviews:
This fascinating and important release features recordings of Vaughan Williams works, remastered from the composer's personal collection of 78-rpm discs. Works include the film score for 1948's 'Scott of the Antarctic', the composer conducting the Aeolian Orchestra in his 1925 recordings of the overture to 'The Wasps' and the suite from his ballet 'Old King Cole', Sir Thomas Beecham conducting 'A Flourish for the Coronation' (written in 1937 for King George VI) and Sir Henry Wood conducting the 'Serenade to Music'. Rounding off this superb release is Vaughan Williams' stirring 'Thanksgiving for Victory' with Sir Adrian Boult and the BBC Symphony Orchestra and chorus.
