Featuring rarely performed works of a very well known composer, this is the first of two CDs presenting Liszt's complete works for violin and piano. These pieces have hardly appeared on CD, and a second disc, including the remainder of Liszt's works for violin and piano, is planned for 2011 in celebration of the composer's 200th birthday.

The second Elegie and the Romance oubliée... best suit violinist Friedemann Eichhorn, the slight graininess in his tone never oversweetening Liszt's potent austerity; his tuning, too, is impeccable.
