Notes & Reviews:
During his lifetime, John Coprario (alias John Cooper, c. 1575-l626), enjoyed an enviable reputation and gained the distinction of being the favorite composer of King Charles I. This fact is substantiated by the creation of a special group of musicians under the direction of Coprario for Charles I, and Coprario's subsequent appointment as composer-in-ordinary to Charles I in 1625. Research completed in the last few decades has revealed that Coprario's outstanding reputation among his contemporaries was well founded, for he is now recognized as one of the most important English instrumental composers of the early 17th century.
