Notes & Reviews:

Helge Roswaenge (1897-1972) was a famous Danish operatic tenor whose career became restricted to Germany, Austria and occupied Europe because of World War II. He was a leading tenor at the Berlin State Opera from 1930 to 1944, being especially distinguished in the Italian repertory. He sang regularly, too, at the Vienna State Opera (from 1936) and in Munich. Helge Rosvaenge appeared in a wide spectrum of roles ranging from Mozart to Puccini, to Verdi and Weber. He sang with "a steely voice, brilliant high notes and insistent declamation throughout its scale, and brilliant and lustrous in its top register" (Luiz Eduardo Goncalves Gabarra).
