Oliver Triendl (Piano)
Notes & Reviews:
This CD marks the first of three volumes featuring Heinrich von Herzogenberg's complete string quartets to be released by CPO. The series will present interpretations by the Minguet Quartet and on occasion include other chamber selections by this wrongly forgotten composer, whose works of this genre number among his finest achievements. Vol. 1 contains Herzogenberg's String Quartet No. 5 op. 63; it was his last contribution to the quartet genre and features as its absolute highlight movement a finale brimming with energetic, rustically burlesque, and temperamental thematic material. The pianist Oliver Triendl then joins the Minguet Quartet for Herzogenberg's Piano Quintet op. 17, a worked dedicated to Alfred Volkland.
"The playing strikes an ideal balance between individual voices and overall textures, the tutti passages having an especially rich sound. The group's phrasing and dynamics advance the musical narrative in the most forceful way. Add CPO's typical high quality recording and what more could you ask for?" -American Record Guide
