Notes & Reviews:

Andrew Byrne has lived and worked mostly in New York since the early 1990s. This tripartite CD has a mobile-like character, working entirely with a fabric of piano and metal percussion in changing manners and images, all of them remote from the duo relationship of conventional chamber music. Byrne relates these pieces to "the other American experimental tradition of Cowell, Harrison, Peter Garland, John Luther Adams, rather than the New York minimalists/post-minimalists - to their concerns with polyrhythms in a reduced meditative sound world, suggestions of strange folk musics, depiction of landscape..."

"Andrew Byrne's sonic landscapes are notionally minimalist, but think Henry Cowell rather than Philip Glass, American experimentalism translated to the Australian outback. The piano is heard alone (Stephen Gosling), played outside and in, but also prepared throughout Fata Morgana, and processed at the dry, dry start of Desert Terrain...it's a mirage by which things over the visible horizon are seen floating above it; apply 'audible' and 'heard' instead and you're in the mysterious presence of this music." - Wire
