Notes & Reviews:

Like so many others of Jewish origin, Hungarian-born pianist Louis Kentner emigrated to England in the mid 1930s. He was to remain there for the rest of his life, becoming very much part of British musical life. His London debut took place in 1936 and was an all Liszt recital. As a direct result he was signed up by HMV and over the next fifteen years, made a large number of recordings. This disc, in addition to a number of the well known etudes, features a group of late Liszt pieces including the bizarre Czardas Macabre and the Les Patineurs scherzo - one of Liszt's most brilliant operatic transcriptions.
